Why do people act like these stupid phrases are 'normal' things to say?

"Looks like rain to me": Example of a stupid phrase. It actually looks like clouds.
"It's trying to rain": Example of a stupid phrase. It is either raining or it isn't.
"The sun's gone in": Example of a stupid phrase. It hasn't 'gone' anywhere.

And they're just about the weather... There are loads of stupid phrases about, but we all just act like they're completely normal and sane things to say.

what about "It's raining cats and dogs"

I don't even know how that phrase would even come together to mean something? It makes no damn sense!?!

These folks seriously lack a creative gene. It's entirely acceptable to NOT say anything, why must folks resort to inane and obvious chitchat?

The ones I absolutely LOATHE?:

Are we having fun yet?
Are you working hard or hardly working?

Holy shit!!
