Surely 'widowers' referrs to those that made someone a widow, which would be... someone dead, right? That's how the process of becoming a widow usually works, anyway.
So it's rather blatent that someone who is divorced is more likely to get remarried than someone who is... dead...

Widows = Women who's husband died.
Widowers = Men who's wives have died.
